Time to quit your lousy job?

Unhappy with your job and not sure what to do?
I think it's not whether the job is lousy but whether there is a fit.

Here's an advice on when you should know it's time for career changes or to quit, from Ms Kathleen Tan, the regional commercial head at AirAsia who "single-handedly" launched AirAsia into China seven years ago, as featured in The New Paper.

Her work philosophy?

Looking for a job in Singapore? How to apply for an employment pass?

There have been enhancements made to the Employment Pass Framework which will be effective from January 2012. Take note of the latest employment pass rules.Foreigners who are interested to work and has a job offer in Singapore may apply for an Employment Pass (EP).

From 1 January 2012, the qualifying salary for the Q1 Pass will be increased from $2,800 to at least $3,000 for young graduates, while older applicants would have to command a higher salary to qualify, commensurate with the work experience and quality they are expected to bring. The qualifying salary for the P2 Pass will be raised from $4,000 to $4,500. There will be no change in the qualifying salary for P1 Pass which remains at $8,000. Concurrently, educational qualifications requirements will be tightened.

Employment Pass (EP) is a work pass for foreign professionals working in managerial, executive or specialised jobs, which will allow the employee to bring in dependents.

likeable social media - a review

likeable social media - How to DELIGHT YOUR CUSTOMERS, create an IRRESISTIBLE BRAND, and be generally AMAZING ON FACEBOOK (an other social networks) by Dave Kerpen

likeable social media - picture from its facebook page

Having a personal interest in social media (check out my other blog - Ginsengtonic - Get high on life! www.ginsengtonic.blogspot.com),
the above was the cover that called out to me when I was at a bookstore in the airport looking for a book to kill time...

For all you need to know about what the book is about and how brilliant the book is.. check out the reviews at amazon.
With 108 reviews on amazon... that's more than enough to read and find out what the book means to a lot of people...

As much as I like what I read... easy to understand... homework with action items.. and real-life examples...
What you need to know about twitter, facebook, blogs, linkedin among others... and how to use the different social media platforms for both business and your own professional development....
What impresses me most is not the book.. but AFTER reading the book...
Dave Kerpen practices what he preaches!

He uses twitter... blogs... facebook.... REGULARLY... and replies!

As basic as it seems.. a social media expert who actually uses social media...You will be surprised.. I have seen adverts for Social Media courses by "experts"... by when I check online out of curiosity... the twitter account gets an update like once a month!

The biggest impact the book has on me?... it is the reason I started a twitter account!... maybe a linkedin account next... hmmm....

"Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes, the ones who see things differently – they’re not fond of rules…because the ones how are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do." - Steve Jobs

"Don't waste time living someone else's life. Stay hungry. Stay foolish." - Steve Jobs

If you are a Singaporean buying property in Singapore, you would be looking at a HDB flat like about 80% of the nation.

More interestingly, you may want to check out the blog Housing Matters at http://mndsingapore.wordpress.com/

The blog of National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan... to get a more detailed idea of his thoughts...

Probably one of the most significant investments most people will make...

Simple way to extra money!

An entry I contributed to CDAC's blog, which I have been volunteering with (though I would like to do more than I am now)...
Here's the entry... you can check it out at also at http://cdacvolunteers.blogspot.com/2011/05/simple-way-to-extra-money.html

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Simple way to extra money!  It is painless and anyone could do it right now – even you!

Remember the coin banks you owned when you were a kid? Mummy was right, it is important to get into the habit of saving.

Mummy is STILL right, even now!

Saving is important and coin banks are not just for kids. If you find yourself struggling to save anything, start by saving your spare coins.

Take what I do for example:

Guaranteed Job Interviews With Top Companies

Get interviews with big corporations such as SingTel, Shell, Millennium & Copthorne International.Promises of high salaries and guaranteed interviews for job seekers - for a fee.

If you have seen this some where before or you have got offers for guaranteed interviews for a fee... it is a SCAM!

Reported in the papers today, there have been cases of "recruiters" or "head-hunters" offering such a service for job seekers for a fee and request for resumes. So far most cases reported have been from Pakistan and companies have been putting up notices and warnings on their websites. So "new recruits" were asked to transfer significant sums to pay for work permits and insurance.

Saving your New Year Resolutions

All the parties and celebrations to welcome the New Year feel like a long time ago.

Remember the New Year Resolutions you made?

Are you still going about it as enthusiastically and as determined as you first made them or have you waved the white flag?

If you have given up on your New Year resolutions, you are not alone. A research done by John Norcross, a psychology professor from the University of Scranton in the United States found that 25 percent of people who make New Year resolutions abandon their resolutions after one week. Even if you are still sticking to your New Year resolutions, you may want to read on as the same research found that when June comes around, the percentage of people who abandon their resolutions totals 85%!

Here are some pointers (the same ones we were first taught when writing compositions in schools) to save our New Year Resolutions: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How (in no particular order)

Number of credit cards charges past 6 million mark

Number of credit cards charges past 6 million mark - The Straits Times (5 Jan 2011)

Read about the above article? Frightening statistics in the article.
A reminder to all of us to be careful with our plastics.

Some of the statistics (based on Monetary Authority of Singapore's statistics in November 2010):

Number of credit cards issued: 6 million
Including supplementary cards: 7.46 million
Card per eligible cardholder: 6 to 7 cards
Monthly card billings: $2.87 billion
Roll over credit balance: 7.5%

Be careful with the plastic, just like fire, it can be our master or servant.

Use it wisely!
